The President
Laura Ruykys
Hi, I’m Laura Ruykys. I’ve been a member of BSSA since 2005, when I was undertaking my Honours at the University of Adelaide. I was recruited by a very enthusiastic Membership Officer and have been a part of the Society since then. I joined the BSSA committee in 2006 as Newsletter Editor, then moved on to Publicity Officer, and now President. I am undertaking a PhD studying the ecology of the black-footed rock-wallaby in the APY Lands of SA.
BSSA is a fantastic way for people interested in biology to be involved in networking and volunteering, which are both critical for a successful career in the environmental field. The benefit also flows to researchers, who often have difficulty in undertaking fieldwork without assistance from volunteers.
BSSA has been operating for over 10 years and has links across all 3 SA universities and both government and non-government organisations. I encourage all those interested in biology and conservation to join BSSA and volunteer when possible. Please explore the website and get involved!
Regards, Laura
