Our Favourite Parks
Please note! While browsing this section, please remember that these are our favourite parks. They may not suit some people. We enjoy quiet, clean, friendly parks with good amenities and managers who care about their customers.
Waikerie, South Australia.
The Riverland in South Australia is the perfect place to have a caravan holiday in Autumn and Winter. Lovely sunny days and cool nights. Waikerie is a delightful spot on the River Murray about 175 kms N/E of Adelaide. The Waikerie Caravan Park has just been acquired by Nicolle and Anthony, a young couple with two children and a desire to make this park the cleanest, greenest and most enjoyable park in The Riverland. The park is within easy walking distance of the town centre ( save that fuel ) and the river. Good shopping, friendly people and plenty to see and do, make this an ideal base for your Riverland holiday. Ring Nicolle on 08 8541 2651 for information and bookings.
Beechworth, Victoria. Lake Sambell Caravan Park
This is one of those parks that you keep going back to. It is so relaxing and quiet. We both love the town of Beechworth, it's walks, it's people, and certainly it's bakery. Beechworth is so central to the many attractions of this area. Its within easy reach of Bright, Wangaratta, Albury - Wodonga and the wine area of Rutherglen. Paul & Jenny of the Lake Sambell caravan park are extremely helpful in all aspects of caravanning. The many walks from the park ( see picture ) are both relaxing and a photographers dream. We first called into Beechworth for an overnight stop-over and stayed for a week.
Clare, Sth Australia. Christison Park Caravan Park.
An ideal place to spend a few days sampling the beautiful wines of the Clare Valley. A beautiful Top Tourist park, Christison Park has just about everything one needs to enjoy a few days relaxation. Just a few kilometers south of Clare township, this park has level, well catered for, caravan sites. Large vans will have no trouble setting up on these sites. Just plug your power, sullage, water and even your TV antenna into a convenient pole, sit back and enjoy. There is a large undercover area for entertaining which has a large fireplace (supply your own wood ). We always enjoy a meal or two at the Clare Hotel which is in the main street of Clare. An ideal stopover on the way to the Flinders Ranges.
Warrnambool, Victoria. Ocean Beach Caravan Park.
This park has one of the best laid out bar-b-que areas we have visited. It has three beautifully clean bar-b-ques with seating, a fire which is lit for you, a large TV screen, all under cover and at no extra cost. We often call in for a few days on our way to or from the Grampians. If your a member of the Big 4 Club, it's even cheaper.
Goolwa, South Australia. Goolwa Caravan Park.
Pt Elliot, Sth Australia. (Fleurieu Peninsula)

Now a "BIG 4" HOLIDAY PARK.
This well laid out park is on the shore of beautiful Horseshoe Bay, Pt Elliot. The sites are level and large. All powered sites are provided with sullage and water. The amenities are one of the cleanest that we have visited in all the years of our caravan travel. During the whale season, this is an ideal park for whale watching. Only ten minutes drive from Victor Harbor and ten minutes drive to Goolwa this park is ideally situated. There are drive through sites which are ideal if you have a large van or if you have trouble setting up. There are many walks around Horseshoe Bay and the surrounding beaches.
Halls Gap, Victoria. Park Gate Resort Caravan Park.
The Park Gate Resort Caravan Park is a Big 4 park. The sites are level and easy to set up. An easy stroll ( 1/2 hour ) will have you in Halls Gap, the centre of the Grampians. Lots of beautiful walks, from the easiest to the almost impossible. Some take about 20 minutes while others can take about 4 or 5 hours. Plenty of wildlife to see, kangaroos, koalas, wallabies, birds, emus and the odd possum or two. We recommend that you stay at least five days to enjoy the many benefits of Halls Gap.
Footnote!!!! We have just returned from a stay in The Grampians, Victoria. Once again we stayed at The Park Gate Resort Caravan Park. It's incredible what changes can be made in such a short time. The park has been extended with a beautiful new amenities block. There are on-suite sites available and these will have plug-in TV facilities shortly. Mary-Anne, Glenda & Richard made us most welcome. It seemed as though we had known them for many years. The powered sites are the biggest we have encountered and are easy to set up on. Most sites have a cement slab. If you find it difficult to position your van, Richard will gladly do it for you. There is a very handy camp kitchen which has a Email facility if you want to keep in touch with home. For a really relaxing stay at a beautiful and friendly park, we can recommend The Park Gate at Hall's Gap.
Avoca, Victoria.
The Avoca Caravan Park is a small park within easy walking distance of the main street of Avoca. It is a quiet, relaxed park adjacent to the golf course and the river. Kath and Jim are a very friendly couple who enjoy a chat and a joke or two. The amenities are basic but clean and tidy. We were forced to stay there when we forgot about the exodus out of Melbourne on the Melbourne Cup Long Weekend in November. No vacancies for miles. Jim told us we would stay longer than we planned and we did. Seven days longer. Try the "Singing Kettle" for a delightful meal at a reasonable price. Not a park for people who want to be on the go, but if you want a quiet stopover or a few days rest, we definitely recommend it.
Port Pirie, Sth Australia. Beach Caravan Park.
An ideal stopover if you are travelling to the Flinders Ranges or to Perth or Alice Springs. Very clean and tidy park. Amenities always appear as though they are brand new. Park is adjacent to the beach and only a few minutes from the city centre. The drive through sites are excellent for people who are just stopping overnight. A beautiful view of the Flinders Ranges can be seen from the park at sunset.
Southport, Queensland. Broadwater Tourist Park.
Broadwater is an excellent park to stay in. The staff are friendly and helpful, the Top Tourist park is clean, sites level, all requirements are on site and you are away from the hustle etc of the Gold Coast. Just a pleasant walk and you can be where you want to be. Beautiful views all around.
Millicent, South East, South Australia. Lakeside Caravan Park
One of the South-Easts best kept secrets is the Lakeside Caravan Park at Millicent. A beautifully laid out park with very good amenities. The photos above will show you how nice this park is. Excellent grassed sites with sullage, water and power right beside you van. I like that, no hoses or cords all over the place. Very neat. The people of Millicent are very friendly and helpful. A visit to Lake McIntyre is very rewarding. A bird sanctuary with boardwalks and bird viewing areas. For a restful break in your travels, don't forget to stay at Millicent
Mt Gambier, Sth Australia. Blue Lake Caravan Park
The Blue Lake Caravan Park is soon to become another Big 4 Park. It is situated within walking distance of the famous Blue Lake. On our last visit, friends who we were with, walked around the lake every morning, a distance of 5 kms. One way of earning your breakfast. The park has grassed sites with easily accessable amenity blocks. It is next door to a beautiful golf course and you can easily walk to the Valley Lake Wildlife Park. It also has a swimming pool, tennis courts and a few ensuite sites. During our stay we went to Nelson (Vic) and enjoyed lunch on the "Nelson Endeavour". This 2 hour lunch cruise on the Glenelg River was most enjoyable and excellent value for money. Captain Harvey McBain was an excellent host assisted by his lovely crew (wife, sister & mother) Lunch was superb. We also took a train ride ( The Limestone Coast Railway ) to Penola and return. Good value also. For any information on the South East of Sth Australia or the South West of Victoria call in at "The Lady Nelson" Visitor & Discovery Centre on Jubilee Highway.
Casterton, Victoria. Casterton Caravan Park
Casterton Caravan Park was a real surprise. A very restful park situated between the town centre and the Glenelg River. This park is an excellent stopover for a few quiet days of rest and relaxation. The photo on the right will explain this. Good shopping for stocking up the van. The amenities are good, sites level, what more could you want at a very reasonable price. If you stay awhile, make sure you visit Warrock Homestead. Allow a few hours to explore the past in this delightful setting.
We will add more of our favourite parks a little later. If you have any enquiries, please email us. caravanning@hotmail.com
