Holyoakia simpsoni

These specimens of Holyoakia simpsoni were collected from Big Gully, Kangaroo Island, South Australia. They are quite rare in this assemblage, and measure only 6mm or 7.5mm long. Along with the "large" Emuella sp., I was lucky enough to have collected the first specimens of this species, which was originally thought to be in the Kootenia family, from this site, comprising of two complete and three partial Thorax / Pygidium specimens. The specimens are quite well preserved, but Facial Sutures are difficult to distinguish.

This reconstruction shows only the basic structure of the Trilobite. Its construction displays somewhat more modern characteristics than its neighbours (Redlichia, Hsuaspis, Emuella): Less Thoraxial segments ( eight ) and quite a large Pygidium, with Genal Spines set close to the Thorax.

Many thanks to James B. Jago and John R. Paterson for their work in identifying and writing up these specimens, and I am indeed very honored to have this species named after me.
