Analypsis

The church Analypsis with Alexandra Paspalas

This church is opened once a year for the name day. This is the 40th day after Easter , when Jesus rose to heaven. The word Analypsis in Greek means to ascend or rise
The hill that Analipsis is on is called Ellinitsa (The name is from an Ancient Greek Queen that lived in the area)...... and it is also a historical site.
During the Turkish occupation of Greece the greeks escaping the turkish extermination hid in the basement of the church. They were there for a long time and ran out of water and were about to die. They prayed for water and a miracle occured with water coming from the ground they were saved. This water in later years the Levidiotes chaneled to the Vrisi at the bottom of Levidi
In front is beautiful Alexandra who was born in Levidi and left when she was eight years old, now lives in New Jersey

Looking down towards Levidi

Here again is beautiful Alexandra with Levidi in the background... you can see the school building clearly and on the distant hill top you can see the Taxiarhis church bell tower. The Clock on the church tower has stopped at the time the Germans threw a hand granade during the war. This is typical of the beautiful scenery of Levidi
