ORHOMENO

The ancient ampitheater Orhomeno

This ampitheater is called Orhomeno, all the surrounding site is where the ancient city of ORHOMENO was, and this was its ampitheater built on this hill area. They performed ancient Greek tragedies(200-300 BC) as they are performing here as part of the reunion celebrations held every three years.

The statue of Artemis. The site lies on the left side of the road from Levidi to Kandila

Homer referred to it as being "rich in sheep". It was the centre of Arcadia for a long time and up to the 5th century BC where local kings had their palaces. The old city was situated on top of the mountain, where there are ruins of the agora and walls. It is worth visiting the spring, waters of which flowed to the sanctuaries of Poseidon and Aphrodite. Near by the city you can still see a carved figure of Artemis placed on the big cedar tree named the Kedreatis or Cedar goddess
