Aldinga Airfield Christmas Dinner and Wings Presentations - 12 Dec 03

Despite a slow start to the bookings, we finally had 65 people turn up to the Aldinga Airfield Christmas Dinner and Wings Presentation - this year hosted by Aldinga Aero Club.

Considering the weather during the day, we were fairly blessed with the weather conditions for the evening. McGoos Catering arrived at 4pm and started cooking the three course meal for a prompt start at 7pm.

Terry Cahalan welcomed everyone and highlighted some of the Club's recent achievements as a band of enthusiastic volunteers: including; Beach Patrols; significant fundraising for Camp Quality and the Amy Grant Foundation; and the recent Fence project. He passed on thanks to members of the Club, Aldinga Aviation, and South Coast Air Centre.

Linda White's speech included some interesting statistics about the growth of SCAC, in particular in comparison to other flying schools, and the record number of graduations. Murray and Linda then presented: First Solo; GFPT; and PPL awards. Ryan Murray was presented a special award for the most outstanding achievement for the year - First Solo on his 16th birthday.

Following the presentations the Aldinga Aero Club Raffle was drawn - see detail below.

It seems that a good night was had by all - and we look forward to next year. I wonder who will step up to the plate and volunteer to host it.

Doug Guy announces retirement as Executive Chef

Doug Guy has announced his retirement as the Club's Executive Chef. Doug, abley assisted by Pauline have put in a huge effort over the years to provide many superb barbecue lunches.

I don't think we realise just how much effort Doug and Pauline have put into catering. They often spend days before a club event preparing all the delicacies that we enjoy. The Club is truly indebted to them both.

Doug said that he needs a break so that he can spend more time on his primary interest - that is flying.

Any member who has a culinary bent and is interested in taking up the challenge - PLEASE ring Terry Cahalan on 8323 8532, or email him to express your interest.
