The TOP 10 is my selection each month of the best 10 deep sky objects seen from the southern skies. By TOP 10 I mean these are my favourite, mostly bright and easy objects to look at through a telescope. This selection should not only appeal to beginners, but would also be appreciated by all lovers of magnificent sights. Each month, there will be a new selection of Top 10 objects here, replacing this group. On the following pages, you will find two images for each object, along with a brief visual description of each object, as seen by me through a 12.5" f/5 Newtonian. The first image will give you an idea of the object in a low powered, wide field eyepiece, with the second image being a smaller field view and higher magnification. The observations were made from fairly dark rural skies, where I can see magnitude 6.1 stars with the naked eye, compared to magnitude 4.5 stars from city skies. Where possible, I will endeavour to include a wide selection of object types, such as: Open Star Clusters (OC), Globular Clusters (GC), Planetary Nebula (PN), Emission Nebula (BN), Galaxy (GX), and the occasional Dark Nebula (DN), and Reflection Nebula (RN). If you have any quesitons you would like to ask me, comments, or details on how to obtain these web pages on CDROM, please contact me, Jenni Kay at: jenni@esc.net.au | ||
