Australian Magpie - Gymnorhina tibicen

Resident in small numbers. An easily recognised, large black and white bird. Local race is 'White-backed'; males have a pure white back, females are white with mottled grey upperparts and immature birds look like females but duller, with a black eye (adult birds have red-brown eyes). Like areas with trees and open space (grassy, gardens or bare ground). Often in groups.

Voice: mellow, musical carolling, sometimes at night; short, harsh alarm call; less harsh squawk.

Call 3: group calling and warbling
