Australian Wood Duck - Chenonetta jubate

Sometimes resident. Common. Male has dark brown head and neck, female paler with light stripes above and below eye. Dabble in shallow water, graze in grasslands. Nest in tree hollows.

Voice: rising, nasal 'gnow', staccato chutter.

Call 1: A duck gives the 'gnow' call several times, then chutters before giving more 'gnow' calls. A Crimson Rosella calls a few times in the background and raindrops punctuate the recording.
