Scarlet Robin - Petroica multicolor

Occasional visitor, usually in autumn. A very small bird, male has scarlet breast, black head, throat and back, white forehead, white wingbars, white lower abdomen. Female is browner with pale scarlet wash on breast. Usually in pairs. Often perch, fly to ground, fly back to same or different perch.

Voice: musical warble, ending in two long notes; quiet 'tick'.

Call 1: three warbling calls; a motorbike revs up on the last call.
