Varied Sittella - Daphoenositta chrysoptera

Occasional visitor. A small bird with a black crown, grey-brown back and white underparts, shows orange wing patches in flight. Eye-ring, base of bill, legs and feet all yellow. Immature bird has grey head. Forages head-down on high branches and tree trunks. Usually in groups, flying quickly between trees.

Voice: high-pitched 'seewit-seewee'; chip-chip contact calls.

Call 1: 'seewit call' by a single bird.
Call 2: contact calls as a group flies overhead; a White-browed Scrubwren chatters to begin with.
